THE FIRE INCIDENT (+/- 1972)

CHARLES (Snr)

Charles Parsons: So just to set the record straight, brother John and Sue, I think Cherril, and I were chatting in grandpa's house in Mayfair West, and Charlie suddenly appeared next to me and tugged at my pants to get my attention. He never said a word, but I knew, this was trouble from his facial expression.

I went with him, as Johnny followed, into the back bedroom of my parents’ house to see our new double bed alight with flames quite high.

I shouted to Johnny to open the bedroom door to the outside while I grabbed the mattress and literally threw it outside on the grass. It was raining at the time, and we then killed the fire.

Number 1 - Had Charlie not done that to me, the back room would have burned down or worse may be more of the house. Anyone want to explain that to Oupa, not me. I really cannot remember where Dad and Mom were, but they were away somewhere.

Number 2, both Johnny and I knew it was not Charlie because Johnny immediately offered to replace the Sealy bed with a new one from his insurance, which he did within a week. So, Charlie did not get a smack, however the truth came out many years later.
